The USS Lowry was assigned to the reserve fleet and stationed at the Philadelphia Naval base in 1970. The USS Lowry became the flagship of the destroyer squadron at Philadelphia Naval base. USS Lowry DD-770 was decommissioned and stricken on 29 October 1973. The Lowry was sold to the Brazilian Navy on 29 October 1973 and was renamed "Espirito Santo D-38". She was placed in inactive service by the Brazilian Navy on 6 February 1996. The Lowry had accomplished 245 trips, 1,249 days at sea and steamed 305,010 miles. The Lowry was sunk as a target during the summer of 1999.
